The informal singing of one liners - in order to cover more songs - leaves you wanting for more, and waiting for the tabla to come on! Maybe this could be addressed by introducing an Antakshari form where someone picks a Shailendra song instead and is 'out' because of that. I know how much all of you are invested in this and because I share some of your passion. I am waiting for Ibaadat to repeat the ones on Shailendra and Shakeel. Like all other previous shows, the research work was meticulous, the sequentialisation was interesting, the composition was intriguing, the visuals were appealing and finally the songs were heart touching. All the singers are excellent; especially Supriya and Sarvesh are simply superlative singers. I would like to mention that this time I observed a shortage of sitting arrangements as many spectators were happily sitting on the stairs and the landing. I truly enjoyed the show... which was well conceived and executed. Selecting songs from Hasratji's vast bouquet has always been a challenge...but the selection was indeed appropriate. Just a suggestion. Please look at doing this in Ahmedabad. Our SJ Foundation would be very happy to give an excellent back up. Water-logged roads and the resultant chaotic traffic doesn't always paint a very good picture for Delhi (or for any Indian city - including Mumbai!), particularly, in the evening hours when one yearns to hit home at the earliest and forget on-the-way experiences! And, this has been happening year after year with no leeway in sight - thanks to the typical govt. (mis)governance that one has got accustomed to. In the process, earning Delhi a name not many would be comfortable with - Bad Monsoon City! And, this monsoon has been no different. However, what happened y'day - during the same monsoon season - turned out to be quite different, absolutely beyond imagination. Hence, thought of sharing it. It was one evening one would love to have every time if given an option. And, what if it comes to you as a Birthday Gift - even if it is delayed by a day! This is what one encountered - which I was telling Anita while returning home after that mesmerizing show. One couldn't have asked for more! "Shahenshah-e- Ruumaaniyat" Show - a musical drama celebrating the life and lyrics of the King of Romance - which we got the opportunity to enjoy. And, enjoyed we did! Fully packed Kamani Auditorium - with an accomplished team of singers performing - belting out songs after song - all too familiar...it was a, truly. out of the world experience. And, this could happen in Delhi with such a finesse, was beyond thoughts for me. How 2.5 hours (without any interval) elapsed, one couldn't realise. It was rinsed in professionalism to the hilt - started sharp at 6.30pm and ended at 9pm - as per schedule. It gave us a deep dive into the golden era treasures of the beloved Hasrat Jaipuri and made us come out richer with bountiful pearls of pleasure! Pearls we couldn't tire collecting! It was pure as water, coming straight from the heart and going straight to the heart(s) with no transmission loss in-between! It had the energy, enthusiasm and hunger like feeling of a Start-Up; depth, maturity and serenity of a seasoned Corporate and, the touch of gravitas and elegance of pure humanism - a complete package in itself. And, its capping with "Jindagi ek safar hai suhana...and National Anthem in the end was, indeed, the goose-bump moment where every molecule of the body was itching to race against each other to be first on the body's surface line-up. Such was the power of the show! "Indian Broadway" in the making! No! Why not? The entire team rocks! It is organized by Ibaadat Foundation, Delhi - purely by invitation. To get such contentment-filled happiness on one's "Arrival Day" is, indeed, wonderful. Isn't it? Another gem of an experience stored in the repository of sweet memories - for the keeps. Cheers! कहा जाता है कि कई शामें आपके अंदर बदलाव ले आती हैं। मेरे साथ भी २७ जुलाई,२०१८ की संध्या को कुछ ऐसा ही हुआ। पुराने हिंदी फिल्म संगीत से घनघोर रूचि के चलते संगीतकार,गायकों के साथ साथ गीतकारों से भी मुहब्बत हो जाना स्वाभाविक ही है। ऐसा ही कुछ इस नाचीज़ के साथ भी घटित हुआ, किंतु इस घटनाक्रम (गीतकारों, शायरों के प्रति अदब/सम्मान) में हसरत साहब का सामान्य से थोड़े उपर गीतकार का दर्जा ही जेहन में दर्ज था। इसका कारण शायद यही था की शैलेंद्र, साहिर, कैफी,मजरूह जैसी महान हस्तियों के समकालीन थे। रोमांस को दायरा बनाकर लिखना या अधिकतर लिखना, लोगों में आपके इल्म के प्रति गंभीरता या सम्मान को कम जगाता है। किंतु इबादत की प्रस्तुति ने इस बसी हुई छवि में आमूल चूल परिवर्तन ला दिया,हसरत साहब ने भी ऊंची शायरी करी, रोमांस की शब्दावली में चश्मे बद्दूर जैसे शब्दों का समावेश करने के साथ साथ "मजदूर की लाश"जैसा कलाम लिखने वाले, किंतु दुनिया में उनके द्वारा रचित रोमांटिक गीतों की बेइंतहा लोकप्रिय, उनके दूसरे अविस्मरणीय कारनामों को ढकती चली गई। हिंदी लिखने/पढ़ने में असमर्थता होने के बावजूद भी नैन से नैन नाही मिलाओ,जैसे विशुद्ध हिंदी गीत की रचना। इबादत के द्वारा बहुत सारी जानकारियां एक के बाद एक, प्याज की परतों की तरह दर्शकों के सामने परोसी गई, जिसमें आनंद और दिलचस्पी का मिश्रण भी था। बहुत बहुत शुक्रिया, आप,इबादत के सभी सदस्यों की मेहनत, शोध, कल्पनाशीलता का, कि हसरत साहब की आत्मा भी संतुष्ट प्रसन्न होती होगी कि" कुछ देर तो लग रही है, फिर भी कायनात मथोड़ा थोड़ा करके ही सही, मुझे पूरा समझ तो रही है।" नवीन आनंदजी को भी असंख्य धन्यवाद, क्योंकि उनकी ही अंनुशंसा पर कार्यक्रम में भागीदारी का हकदार बन सका। पुन आभार और कोटि कोटि धन्यवाद एक चश्मे-बद्दूर शाम दिल्ली वासियों को भी प्रदान करने के लिए। Parag Dimri,GM-Marketing, Eldeco Infrastructure & Properties Ltd.

What would come next after every minute was a surprise, and a pleasant surprise…nothing predictable. I found the Hasrat Evening outstanding. It was brilliantly conceived, and put together. The singers were by far the best we have heard in such programs in Delhi. You all seemed to love the subject and had a deep understanding and knowledge of Hindi film song, lyrics, the lives of lyricists and music directors and the ups and downs in their professional careers. The pace of the narrative never slackened, and it was so natural and free flowing, and that too really kept us hooked. Thus, both as a musical, and as an entertainment show, it kept the audience enthralled throughout. I have never seen an audience in their 60s and older so charged up, literally cheering every song. Probably you brought to life the best years of their younger days. I can’t think of anything lacking. Obviously, a lot of thought and meticulous planning and personal knowledge has gone into the design and format. All I might say is that the quality of singing must be top class which really captures the voice and styles of these great singers of the golden era. It is impossible to sing Lata, not to speak of Rafi or Mukesh, and many a budding artist is advised not to touch difficult songs of Lata when performing in public. But, Your singers, except one, were exceptionally good (each had the voice quality, training and resonance which was evocative of the artist they sang for), and perhaps that was the single most important reason for the show being a hit. I must say that it was a real treat to heart, mind and soul. You have done real justice to the talent and contribution of Hasrat Sahab. He was certainly a “Romanticist” par excellence, yet he was always overshadowed by other poets/lyricists of the Golden era. Your touching presentation has been able to (finally) undo that ‘injustice’, I must say. You and your team deserve sincere appreciation. If I compare this programme with the earlier ones that I attended few years back, I would have no qualms in saying that your overall presentation has improved greatly, both in terms of form and content. Here, I won’t (dare) say anything about the singers because it is difficult to say who wasn’t better than the other. And most importantly, the synchronization amongst the presenters/singers on stage and back stage teams (Lighting, Music etc) was exemplary, to say the least. Not even a ‘mild hiccup’ could be felt in a programme that ran two and a half hours non-stop. Everything ran fluidly and seamlessly. Team Ibaadat has evolved as One Body, I must say. Please accept my heartiest congratulations for the splendid performance of Shahenshah-e-Ruumaaniyat Hasrat Jaipuri on 27th July. Your entire team has surpassed even its own high standards. From every point of view - ranging from conception, format, stage management and presentation to choice of songs, quality of singing & orchestration, it was a performance par excellence! The singing of Supriya Joshi (esp Rasik balma and Hum tere pyaar me saara alam) was unparalleled - perhaps better than the original! Sarvesh and Anand were, as usual, outstanding. Even Sangeeta Melekar's rendition of Aji rooth kar and Naveen's rendition of a non-film ghazal are worth a special mention. Some other innovative and attractive features were: 1) The singing of just the mukhras of a large number of Hasrat gems (without any orchestration) by a wide variety of singers. 2) Obaid playing the `ghost voice' of Hasrat sa'ab. 3) The informative video clips of Kishwar ji (Hasrat sa'ab's daughter). 4) The superb dance recital of Nain so nain (with Naveen's excellent singing). Last, but not the least, I would like to commend the world class compering of Sangeeta Bedi. Her long and varied experience in the media is pretty evident - and her Hindi/ Urdu diction is just as perfect and pleasing! I was in Delhi and was lucky enough to get a chance to watch the event on Hasrat Jaipuri. What a program! Format, Set, Compering, Script was all Top Class. Singers were great. You and Sangeeta Bedi, in your inimitable conversational style, wove a wonderful biography of the poet. Supriya Joshi, as in all Ibaadat events we have attended, made music ethereal and enjoyable. Sarvesh Mishra, Anand Bahal, Sangeeta Melekar, Debu Mukherjee and Naveen Anand also made music marvellous. Debu Mukherjee should have had more lyrics to sing because his voice is distinctive and memorable. Obaid Azmi was quite a character, making strategic appearances as Hasrat himself. We wonder if he spoke extempore or was actually reading the book in his hand. Surely there not enough light to read by, it seemed to us. You did it again. What a crisp show. Thoroughly enjoyable. Not a dull moment! Splendidly scripted and executed. The high points were Rasik Balma and Tu mere saamne hai by matchless Supriya and Sarvesh. Would have loved if they sang Ajahun na aye Baalama, fully. This was the first show of Ibaadat Foundation that I attended. My friends and I absolutely loved the show. All the singers performed exceptionally. We loved the conversational tone of the event and the information on the life of Hasrat Jaipuri that was shared. Your organisation is doing great work by providing visibility to the contributions of these wonderful lyricists and poets, musicians, who made such important contribution to the film industry and yet do not often get as well known for their work. An excellent show. We have unfortunately not been able to attend Ibaadat programmes for some time now but realised what we had been missing. It was beautifully anchored, choreographed and performed by everyone. The choice of songs was also wonderful - took you down the memory lane to some of the best years of our lives. And Naveen, we specially loved your and your co-singers 'Nain se nain...' rendering and the dance on it. Excellent indeed. My words could be short in depicting the high quality of your and the team’s presentation of Hasrat Jaipuri’s life and creation. An enjoyable soulful musical evening. The programme was not only reminiscent of lilting and charming songs of Hasrat sahib so well rendered by your team but it brought Hasrat’s life and work so closely to the audience. Hats off to you and the entire organizing team for a superlative evening that was so seamlessly and brilliantly organized and executed! Great planning for the event and everything dovetailed beautifully - so much so that 2.5 hours went by very quickly. We could have been there for another 2.5 hours and still remain spellbound and not wanting to leave the auditorium. The evening was truly mesmerizing!! Please can you send the remaining Ibaadat schedule for 2018 even if it is in another city - we and our friends would love to come there too. Given that Hasrat Sahab hailed from Jaipur, it is no guess that you would want to hold an evening there in his honor in 2018 itself with the same people who sang so melodiously. At the outset we would like to appreciate efforts of Ibaadat Foundation for bringing back live the legends in the field of music. We were fortunate to have been able to witness the program on great lyricist Hasrat Jaipuri Ji. The kind of research you must have done resulted in overwhelming impact on the audience in the form of information not only about the life of this legend but also the work he could had done. All the artists were par excellence in their performance as singer, dancer and narrator but I shall miss if the names of Ms Sangeeta and yourself are not mentioned specially for the script and connecting so well the entire episode/program.
