Excellent presentation. The unique feature of this programme is the fluidity of presentation that makes Ibaadat different from others. How the script merges into songs, how the spoken words flow into visuals on the screens or live songs performed by highly talented singers was a treat to watch. Certainly, one could feel that a lot of effort must have gone into making this happen (and yet make it look so effortless) .As we all know, India is a country of villages and it's the village chaupal that forms the heart of the village (life). The total feel of the presentation was as if we are sitting at a village chaupal and villagers discussing everything under the moon - right from politics to society, corruption to price rise, degradation of values in society to films etc etc. This true & authentic rural flavour of the presentation is something that makes this presentation especially close to the real persona of people’s poet-Shailendra. It is the morning after and I woke up with last evening's songs haunting my mind. That indeed is the beauty of the lyrics of yester years, they occupy the inner recesses of the soul and show up like a spring breaking forth and refreshing the ground that it touches. Those lyricists were blessed that they had music directors who grasped the spirit of the emotions and the thought imbued in those words. Those music directors were blessed that there were singers who gave those words and those notes a mesmerizing feel. And we are blessed that Ibaadat recreates the experience that brought forth a perfect harmony of elements. The format followed last evening was innovative and the program had a flow maintained by the engaging style of the comperes. The singers too excelled and were just to the legends. It was a truly delightful evening. The show was done superbly, had all of us in the audience in raptures (even singing along in the perfectly interspersed musical moments), and your Masterhood of Ceremonies was par excellence as the evening’s host. I must add that I also learnt a lot about the personal life of one of India’s most remarkable poets, especially since my engagement with Hindi cinema lyrics is a post-1990s phenomenon (before that, as a teenager, my music was mostly rock etc) and it was heart-warming to experience such enchanting lyrics and melodies of an earlier era. Ibaadat deserves the dua-salaams of all Indian music lovers in its endeavour. If a suggestion were to be made, in all humility, it would be this. Please have this show staged in as many cities as possible in India and overseas (and if held again in Gurgaon/Delhi, my wife, who missed it away on work, would love to attend). If the work of other lyricists/poets can similarly be presented in the years to come (am sure such a fine production takes plenty of effort and planning), it would be wonderful as well.
