I have been attending music programs for the last 28 years. I can say without hesitation that this was the best I have ever seen. Firstly, my very best wishes for 2016 to the Ibaadat family – may the year take your efforts to greater heights (you may need oxygen masks for this !). My mind constantly goes back to the 4th of December 2015 fondly remembering the excellent musical evening ‘Kaviraaj Shailendra’ at the Indian High School auditorium. Quite deliberately, I had refrained from dashing of an email to you post that evening – believing that with passage of a few days my memory of the evening would mellow. Happily, that was unfounded – I remember every moment fondly as fresh as if it was yesterday. It’s now time to capture my belated thanks to you all for the fabulous evening. My wife Ami and I met all of you post the event at Amla’s home. I had mentioned then that the Ibaadat evening was quite easily the most magical music event we had ever experienced in our 28 years in Dubai. That’s not a statement made lightly, having attended some of the best music shows – including Rock, Jazz, Indian Classical and other genres over the years in fabulous settings. The conversations with each of you and the singers and musicians brought to life the huge effort you obviously put into each event, making the experience memorable. The performance Ibaadat puts together is special for a number of reasons – your obvious passion for poetry and the performing arts which translates into Ibaadat; the absence of ‘commercial’ colour to the proceedings and most importantly the respect and inclusion you displayed for the life and talent of Kaviraaj Shailendra. Our experience was the more special as we have known Amla Mazumdar and her family very closely these past 25 years in Dubai and could relate to the many personal aspects of Shailendra’s life we have heard first hand from her. A special mention about Suprriya, she really rocked the evening with the songs. Not to take away from the other singers they were exceptional too but Suprriya caught our attention. Really enjoyed the programme on Shailendra. Your hard work and thought (and that of your team) in putting it together is evident. Love the fact that you keep varying the format and length of various segments so that one is left wanting more at every stage. It was quite informative too- especially on the non-film poetry or even some of the film songs. Like I didn't know that the Anuradha songs that I love were written by Shailendra. The quality of singing was also excellent - particularly, Suprriya. Somehow one appreciates the lyrics more when listening to live music rather than the recorded voice. It was a brilliant evening and we were privileged to be a part of the magical evening. It was really special for me as Shalabh introduced me to Ibaadat and your good work, to top it I had the company of my better half and in-laws, we truly enjoyed the experience and were greatly appreciative of the evening. The research was immaculate, the singers were at par with the best and the presence of Dineshji was really heart warming. My personal favourite were the performances by Sarvesh :) Bravo and kudos to you and your team at Ibaadat, the immortals are celebrated and generations removed have an opportunity to connect with some of the greatest works of our times. Suggestion - In these times a phone app would go a long way to connect with the kids of the millennial generation and maybe competition to school and college kids to recompose some of the popular writings Ibadaat presents with an opportunity of the winner of the competition to perform at the events. Next time you are in Dubai I'd love invite or join you for dinner, I was fortunate to run a production house in LA from 2012 to 2014 and am closely associated to the performing arts and the entertainment industry. Unforgettable ...mesmerising...and totally magical - the tribute to Kaviraaj Shailendra that I witnessed in Dubai on 4 December 2015. Skilfully crafted, there were seamless transitions to different parts of the show and groups of songs...the style was chatty and the setting so appropriate- and we too felt included in a living room conversation... rich with anecdotes and insights into the person, his life and times. Must say a word about the singers and their talent- they brought alive so many memories and stirred our souls in the way that only great lyrics -and their rendition - can do. Kudos to the team for creating a complete package...classy, understated and enthralling. Heartfelt thanks for sending us the invite...wouldn't have missed this for anything. We very much enjoyed your show. I was privileged to see Ibaadat's performance to a packed large auditorium in Dubai last night, my first such experience. It was an amazing and outstanding experience - about 160 minutes of a drama interlaced with music and singing of composer Shailendra's works. No booze, no socializing, no speaches- just lilting music- very magical. And Naveen was just outstanding- his singing prowess, his passion and his stage persona were all new to me- and I was overwhelmed. I love Bollywood music (case in point I recently downloaded 1000 Rafi songs- then heard and catalogued 50 songs daily for 20 days)- but seeing the talent and devotion on display on stage last night was a truly exhilarating experience.
